Why can’t we all just get along?

Seriously. Why can’t people even pretend to get along, or at least be civil?

We are not going to agree on everything. There is nothing wrong with that. The fact that I have different views and opinions from you is great. We are individuals with our own thoughts and opinions. If we all had the same views and opinions we would not be human. Diversity is a good thing.

That even extends into the political arena. I am free to vote for whoever and whatever I like. What I hold to be good and true. Your view may be totally different. We can agree to disagree.

Where has this bitter divisiveness come from? Everyone is attacking each other and then calling foul on the other. Well, you can’t have it both ways. Some of the comments I have been reading around the internet are just hateful – from BOTH parties.

People have been jumping onto the bandwagon to defend their beliefs at the expense of the others. In doing that, when you attack back with hate and bitterness – you are doing exactly what you are complaining about. Talk about defeating your own purpose. I know this happens on both sides. There are things I hear that make me cringe. I hope that no one supports those who seem to be extremist in their reaction.

We all know there are extremists in every group. They exist throughout society in all groups. What has happened to letting the few overshadow the rest? It would appear that the media is helping to perpetuate this stereotypical image through frequent, consistent reminder.

Here is what I don’t get.

People stealing each others signs, replacing them with the opposing view. Why do that? It is their yard, their car, their right to have that in their yard. If you don’t like it – look away. Don’t taunt them or try to engage in a battle of words or will. Simple human decency seems to have flown out the window.

Yes, we all have the right to free speech as guaranteed by the First Ammendment. That is why it is okay for me to even write about what I think without fear. Everyone is guaranteed that.

  1. Freedom of speech
  2. Freedom of Religion
  3. Freedom of the Press
  4. Right to gather/assemble (peacefully)
  5. Right to petition

It seems that in the name of “freedom of speech” people have been carrying things a bit too far. You don’t have the right to slander or libel, attack someone, etc.

My tips for how to behave during an election season:

* Don’t park your car beside someones home, write something inflammatory about them on it, and then leave it there for all to see for days.

* Don’t attack at a campaign motorcade.

* Don’t list someones baby on ebay.

* Don’t threaten people physicially for having views other than yours.

Political Signs Bring Threat

Two supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama found handwritten death threats in their mailboxes Thursday and reported them to Villa Park police. A 74-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man with Obama signs in their front yards near the 600 block of South Villa Avenue received similar letters that had a Villa Park Village Hall return address. “Get the Obama signs off your property–now,” the letter reads. “Failure to obey this order will result in the immediate death of all family members.” Both residents said they will not remove their signs, though the man, who had voted Republican for 25 years before switching parties this year, said his wife is worried about letting their 7-year-old son play alone outside.

* Don’t steal people’s yard signs and replace them with your own. -I am pretty sure theft is not covered by free speech.

* Do you really have to wear the really negative shirt against the other candidate? I have some that went to far on all of them. Some that I would be embarassed to even be standing next to someone wearing.

* Don’t assume that just because someone has different views than you – that they are ignorant, uninformed, racist, you get the jist.

As a conservative and Republican I am not out to get you. I do not slander you, I do not call you names for your views and I would appreciate the respect that I show to you.

Even if you don’t like my views, you don’t get to insult or call me names. I am not doing that to you. You have the chance to be the bigger person.

Lies, Slander, Libel – Oh My!

Lies, slander, libel, whatever your choice term is, They are false or malicious claims that may harm someones reputation. – Taken from Wiki.

Have you noticed it is more likely to be called slander or a lie if it is against whichever candidate you support?

I think the McCain and Obama camps have both been guilty of this. And complaining about the other one, is like the pot calling the kettle black.

(And please know that is not a racial slur here. If the saying could have been called the kettle orange I would have said it. But it is a very old saying with no malice or prejudice.)

It is not just slander because you don’t like what they are saying or they are denying what is being said. If you do read about these topics you will find there is some truth being purported as lies.

Read fact checking websites. Find reliable sources to back you up. Emphasis on reliable.

If you hear something you feel is questionable, research it yourself, from more than one place. Your source for news cannot be the same place all the time, every time. There is little room for denying that there is a bias on each and every media outlet. The spin is rampant.

All of them.

I personally think as a whole they tend to sway to the left. Except that FOX sways to the right. So there is no big surprise that I watch Fox. But I do watch CNN. I read news on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, Factcheck, local newspapers. I look at multiple sources and weigh out the answers.

It is my responsibility and right to make up my own mind. To do that I have to be educated. Not in the school sense, but I have to know what the issues are, read about candidates stances, check out stories as they come to light.

Place a basic litmus test on them and determine validity before you jump to conclusions. You might be surprised at the answers when you seek them.

You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
How applicable.
How simple.
How true.

Just remember that your worldview is different from your neighbors. Each is shaped by so many different facets of life and personal values and beliefs. No matter how much you might try to convince me I am wrong. You won’t. It does not jive with my perception of right and wrong. I understand that about others too. It does not make me happy, but I don’t expect us all to think and believe the same things without controversy. If you choose to just believe and jump on the bandwagon you are just as bad as the lie you choose to perpetuate.

Personally, I think that some of the places they are going with smearing in this campaign are just going too low. And ultimately irrelevant.

Accusing Palin of lying about her baby? How absurd!
Implications and accusations against John McCain as a POW?

Obama and Biden have been subject to criticism that I find unfair and irrelevant as well. I find some of the Obama issues to be more issues with association and credibility. I do believe that you are ultimately who you have out with.

McCain and Palin are not racist, extremists spreading lies and hatred. Each camp thinks they are the ones that should win. Why can’t they focus on what THEY can offer and not bashing what the other guy does? Talk about themselves. I am tired of hearing hate speech all the time. Can’t you share the benefits of your guys plan instead of bashing personally all those who do not agree with you?

McCain is correcting people. There are extremists on both sides. Just take a peek at the DailyKos to see the far left extremists. There are also people who are just ignorant and don’t know any better. Not that there is an excuse for that, but McCain is also not responsible for their lack of knowledge.

I am pretty sure that there are plenty of people booing and yelling nasty stuff about Bush, McCain, and Palin at Obama rallies, but you are not hearing about that. Wonder why that is?

I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something about Obama that I just don’t trust, and that goes beyond just simply disagreeing with his political views.

I wish the corruption in our election process could end and we could simply focus on critical important issues instead of trying to best each other.

Looking forward to the last debate. Let’s hope we all get through with as little mud-slinging as possible.
